My Beautiful Girl is a series of work done at university and is based upon the relationship that I have with my Grandmother
following the death of my Mother 4 years ago. My photographs are shot in medium format film
in both black and white and colour. My work explores the physical similarities
between my Grandmother and myself, and the generation gap between us,
emphasising the absence of my mother in my work.
Although I have always had a very close relationship with my Grandmother, she
is my maternal grandmother, I feel that our roles have altered since the death
of my mother. My Grandmother has always been a strong matriarchal figure in my
life, however since the death of my mother I feel that I have now assumed part
of her role. This is also something that my work explores.
